SETsquared Bristol is proud to partner with a number of institutions and organisations, widening the incubator’s networking for the benefit of our members
SETsquared Bristol is part of the SETsquared Partnership which is an enterprise collaboration between five leading research-intensive universities: Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey.
Established in 2002, the SETsquared Partnership is a focus for enterprise activity and new business creation for the five university partners. There are similar Centres at the Universities of Bath, Exeter, Southampton, and Surrey, and each Centre delivers support in different ways, although the brief – to accelerate early stage, high-tech, high-growth ventures – remains the same.
The five Centres share some resources (e.g. the Mentor pool) and operate in concert for a number of activities, including some investment showcase events and the scale up programme.
As well as business creation, SETsquared also has a role in embedding entrepreneurial thinking and behaviour within the Universities that it supports.
This happens at a number of levels - through a programme of student enterprise activity, and also by supporting researchers and academics to realise the commercial and social impact of their research.
University of Bristol
SETsquared Bristol is funded by the University of Bristol Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF). Our partnership with the University offers ventures access to university students, post-grads, post-docs, and research departments at the Research and Enterprise Development department.
This allows SETsquared members the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Bristol research departments in the form of work placements and sponsored projects to support ventures as they develop their products and services.
SETsquared Bristol is proud to be based at Engine Shed, in the heart of Bristol’s Enterprise Zone, and benefits from its location adjacent to the UK's most connected transport hub, Bristol Temple Meads station.
Engine Shed is a hub that showcases the strengths and innovations of the Bristol and Bath city region in an informative and inspiring way, and aims to bring together useful people to enable innovation by facilitating conversations between companies, investors, and academics. Engine Shed runs it’s own out-reach and events programmes, which focus on creating more opportunities for startups in the eco-system, boosting the local economy and facilitating long term, sustainable and economic growth.
As partners of SETsquared, Engine Shed invests a percentage of their revenue back into SETsquared projects and activities to improve scale-up opportunities for ventures.
