Bristol-based startup, Impulsonics has been awarded the prestigious ICURe spinout support grant of £300,000 to enable the development of its unique technology platform for biotech automation.

Impulsonics founders at NEC competitionThe grant will enable the company to develop its flexible acoustic platform for key applications in the process of growing cells in order to streamline cell culture automation. This could enable more scalable approaches to cell based medicines which are already beginning to see clinical efficacy curing conditions ranging from cancer to blindness.

Impulsonics, a University of Bristol spinout, joined SETsquared Bristol’s incubation programme in July 2023 as a prize for winning the university’s New Enterprise Competition.

Luke Cox, CEO of Impulsonics said “This is a huge opportunity for us to take our technology to the next level” said, “it will enable us to expand our team and facilities as well as getting our technology out there. Through ICURe we were able to realise the biggest problems in the industry and I’m delighted that we’ll be able to address them.”

Amanda Franklin, Engineering Lead at Impulsonics said “We are committed to making cell culture automation as accessible and user-friendly as possible. We believe that this technology has the potential to make a huge impact on the way that cells are grown in a whole host of applications.”

Impulsonics’ technology will enable the process of cell growth to be more easily automated in line with existing work flows. This grant will enable development of the flexible platform with an emphasis on the key pain point of cell passaging, but will also build the foundations for a whole host of other processes. This can be applied everywhere from pre-clinical research through to cell therapies and personalised medicine.

Impulsonics is raising its first round of SEIS eligible investment to help get its technology into customer labs. If you are interested in joining please reach out via impulsonics.com.
